Rudraksha necklace Mala, brown, 108 beads with tassel

The Rudraksha Buddha Mala consists of 108 beads, finished with a beautiful 9 cm long tassel.

It is used for counting while reading, chanting or mentally repeating a mantra or the name(s) of a particular deity - a practice known in Sanskrit as japa.

The bead necklace is mainly used for counting mantras that are repeated. So it actually serves the same purpose as the rosary. Necklaces made of (semi-) precious stones, pearls, bodhi seeds or wood can serve a variety of purposes, such as counting any number of mantras or other forms of prayer, bows, walks and so on. The necklace is the same for each mala and should be made of nine threads representing Buddha Vajradhara and the eight Bodhisattvas. The larger bead at the end represents the wisdom that perceives emptiness, and the cylindrical bead on the large bead represents emptiness itself. Together they symbolise victory over all adversity.
