Triphala ghee can be used externally as an ointment or for eye and nose care. Triphala ghee is especially good for foot massage with kaash bowl. Due to its Pitta-balancing properties, Triphala Ghee is generally suitable for body, hand and foot care. Eye care (netra tarpan or eye stinging) is traditionally done with Triphala ghee.
Triphala Ghee combines the properties of Triphala with the benefits of Ghee (butter fat or melted butter). However, Triphala Ghee is not to be equated with Ghee mixed with Triphala powder.
Like the classic Ayurvedic Sidha oils, Triphala Ghee is produced using a complex Ayurvedic manufacturing process. One-sixteenth decoction of Triphala is boiled with Ghee until the water evaporates. Care and attention play the most important role in production.
Ghee is generally considered a very good remedy for balancing Pitta dosha. It gives strength to all the senses and supports the sense of sight, which is why, for example, ghee is also found in ayuvedic kajals. For memory, vital energy (ojas) and natural abilities of the body, triphala ghee can be equally beneficial.

Traditionally, Triphala Ghee is also used in the preparatory phase of Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment.
